I was out of it for a day or two, and when I finally leave my dorm room there were a couple surprises waiting. Last time Vemrin showed up, he was with another human. Dolgis, or something like that. Didn't mention him before because he was just the sort of enforcer I was expecting Vemrin to have, if he really is as powerful as people have been going on about. Big, maybe stupid, had a personal history with their boss for bonus trustworthiness. Turns out there was no 'maybe' about the stupid. Jumped me in the hallways--though 'jumped' implies there was surprise involved. It wasn't an ambush or anything, he just picked a spot where there weren't any cameras or witnesses and declared he was gonna kill me.
Which might've worked if he'd brought something surprising with him. He just had a training saber.
What a fucking joke.
So, now he's dead. Not sure anyone's come and cleaned him up yet, he was still there the last time I saw him.
So, either Vemrin has more where he came from, or he just wasted the best chance he would've had to outnumber me. I'm not sure he has many more active supporters, to be honest. Darth Baras' top pick or not, he doesn't seem to have much pull here, at least not from what I've been able to pick up.
I need a few more days in the mess hall to really be sure, but it doesn't really seem like there are gangs here. Not even much in the way of rich kid frats, though they do try. Nothing bigger than can fit at a table or two. Maybe it's because most of the people are here for less than a year? And few of them have backgrounds in street gangs or black market businesses. Since Tremel pulled me out early, I might actually be the first one to show up straight from prison.
Vemrin and Dolgis were working together because they were both from Balmorra, and that was about it. Tremel's shitfit over blood purity probably got picked up on by the other acolytes, so they're staying away. Unless there's more Balmorrans here, I don't think Vemrin's got a crew at all.
Neither do I, but I literally just showed up this week. I have an excuse.
Anyway. That's rambling rather than talking about the latest stranglevine Tremel's thrown me into. It turns out Baras sensed it when I killed that thing down in the tombs. It was a big enough deal that he wants to see me.
That's either good, or really fucking bad. The pace this stuff is going is too fast. If I'm tracking this right, I'm about at the point that most wouldn't reach until seven or eight months here, plus pre-Academy training.
I'll probably survive this meeting, but then Tremel really needs to go. He says it's not his fault that Baras noticed, but I don't entirely buy that. Etiher he's still not figured out I'm a halfbreed, or the Bloodist fuck is trying to throw me at Vemrin fast enough that we both die.
